Update weeks 19, 20 and 21!

After my last appointment I was cleared to return to work. So for now I’m off bed rest my next ultrasound is Friday so we’ll see how things are going then. If there has been a large decrease in the length of my cervix I will be on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy 19 whole weeks! Also since we’ve passed the twenty week mark and the baby is no longer measuring two days behind  we’re going back to our weeks changing on Wednesdays rather than Fridays.

How far along: 21 weeks!
Symptoms:  Morning sickness seems to be creeping back up, heartburn, discomfort sleeping on my stomach, headaches, Braxton Hicks contractions
Total Weight Gain: I’ve gained about 6lbs within the last two weeks
Stretchmarks: No new ones and trying to keep it that way!
Sleep: I haven’t been sleeping too well due to discomfort, weird dreams, constantly needing to pee
Best Moment This Week: Feeling our baby kick, the kicks have become more frequent so I love to place my hand on my stomach and feel reassured that our little one is okay
Movement: Our baby is always kicking and punching we think they’re going to be an athlete, gymboree is a must for this baby!
Labor Signs: Too early for any real signs but I’ve started experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions
Belly Button: It has popped out
What I Miss: Can’t think of anything at the moment
What I am Looking Forward to: The next 19 weeks flying by!

Weeks 15, 16, 17 and 18!

As I last blogged at my last ultrasound it was discovered that my cervix was rather short and I was at risk for preterm labor (not good!). My ob referred us to a specialist that I’ve been seeing weekly and we’ve had weekly ultrasounds. Also I was put on bed rest for the past 3 weeks so I’ve been out of work. Luckily at my appointment last week my cervical length has increased to about 3cm, so we’re back in the safe zone (huge sigh of relief). My ob wants to monitor me for one more week before allowing me to return to work. If all is well at our ultrasound on Thursday I will be cleared to go back to work either that Friday or following Monday.

How far along: 18 weeks 2 days
Symptoms:  Increased appetite, frequent need to pee, sleepless nights, restless leg syndrome and headaches! Not so fun but better this than all the random scares we’ve had.

Total Weight Gain: I haven’t gained any weight yet, at my last appointment I was still down a pound from my pre-pregnancy weight
Stretchmarks: Only on my breasts which have more than doubled and are now a 34ddd or 34e depending on bra type
Sleep: I haven’t been sleeping too well due to discomfort, weird dreams, constantly needing to pee and getting hungry in the middle of the night
Best Moment This Week:Seeing that our little one is progressing and developing on track. We are so happy to have received perfect results at our anatomy scan.
Movement: Little One loves to kick, Yang can even feel the kicks when she places her hand on my stomach
Labor Signs: With the cervical issues we definitely don’t want that!
Belly Button: It’s pretty much out now
What I Miss: Having the occasional glass of wine
What I am Looking Forward to: July I can’t wait to meet our baby!!!

One thing after the other…

So today we had yet another ultrasound, this one was to check up on the SCH issue. Well the SCH seems to be mostly resolved other than a small area measuring around 1 cm. We saw the baby bouncing around in there and we even saw them punch me lol. So we were very pleased with the ultrasound. Abak is doing great and their heart is still strong and pumping away. Then the evening took an unexpected turn when we went over to our OB’s office for our ultrasound follow up appointment. The doctor came in and started with the upsetting news. My cervix is apparently funneling, short and a bit open. She said the inside is still closed but they are concerned that I may end up having a preterm labor which this early on will result in miscarrying. She wasn’t sure why this is happening and said my cervix could be opening to release more blood (in other words she has no clue). They are having me go to the hospital tomorrow for an emergency level 2 (high tech) ultrasound and I’ll be seeing a perinatologist (doc that specializes in high risk pregnancy). The perinatologist will be able to further explain what is happening and what, if anything can be done. Some of the options are a cerclage (basically stitching up my cervix), shots to lengthen my cervix, meds to stop contractions or simply bed rest. Yang and I are hoping and planning to push for some type of action to be taken.

We really do not want to take the let’s just see approach and sit around waiting for this to resolve without medical intervention. We’ve gone down that road and look where it’s gotten us, we’re here with yet another problem. More than likely we will be switching Ob clinics. I asked to be referred to a specialist before and they said it wasn’t necessary, also asked for bed rest and that was shot down. We don’t care what they say we both feel this could’ve been avoided or discovered earlier. We are not happy with their level of care or concern. We’re hoping to get some answers and resolution tomorrow. This pregnancy thing is physically and emotionally harder than I ever imagined. At this point I think I’m one and done, Yang will be having the next child and we will happily be a family of four.

Baby update weeks 12,13 and 14!

The last few weeks have been crazy with the holidays and everything so let me try to catch everyone up. As I last posted I  started bleeding again on Dec 11th this continued until some time around Dec 29th or so. We spent many of those days at doctor’s appointments and getting ultrasounds. On our Dec 23rd ultrasound appointment it was discovered that I had a Subchorionic Hematoma (SCH). This basically means that I had a bit of blood  gathering  between the membranes of the placenta and my uterus. The blood usually does not interfere with the baby and most women continue to have a perfectly healthy pregnancy. In a few rare cases SCH can lead to preterm labor and placental abruption. My SCH was rather small so our doctor was not overly concerned and said that it would either bleed out or be reabsorbed by my body. Luckily (knock on wood) after bleeding for nearly 3 weeks the bleeding and spotting has stopped. We are hoping that it all bled out. Our next ultrasound appointment is Jan 12th, so we’ll see how things look then. Hoping for a very positive ultrasound :)

How far along: 14 weeks 2 days
Symptoms: Morning sickness still appears every now and then but nothing like before YAY! but it seems to be replaced by constant headaches and dizziness. Also I have a constant feeling of pressure and stretching in my pelvic area and very itchy breasts, probably due to them more than doubling in size. I started out at a 34d and have already out grown my new 34dd bras! 

Total Weight Gain: Not sure, I haven’t weighed myself in a few weeks
Stretchmarks: No new ones
Sleep: I haven’t been sleeping too well due to discomfort, weird dreams, constantly needing to pee and getting hungry in the middle of the night
Best Moment This Week: Yang is really excited that my bump is starting to show
Movement: Not yet. but I’m looking forward to it
Gender: We’ve had an unofficial guess by the ultrasound tech but won’t know officially until Feb.
Labor Signs: Too early for that!
Belly Button: Still in.
What I Miss: Having the occasional glass of wine
What I am Looking Forward to: Our next ultrasound, finding out the gender. Yang is looking forward to getting the all clear for us to book our baby moon ( Our doc said I can’t fly until the SCH has cleared, due to the changes in air pressure it may cause more bleeding)

Also we are very happy that we are now in the second trimester!!!! We’re 6 weeks away from being half way through this pregnancy!! I hope everyone’s New Year is off to a great start ~Yin!

14 weeks 1 day

Long overdue update 10/11 weeks 2 for 1!

10 weeks

At this point even the last week is a blur so I can’t really pinpoint much from week 10 other than when we heard ABAK’s heart beat!

On December 6th we heard our little one’s heart pumping away, music to my ears!

Now onto week 11, actually today we’re 11 weeks 4 days!

Symptoms: Morning sickness is slowing down a bit YAY! I’m still cramping though:(

Total Weight Gain: Still down by about 4 pounds
Stretchmarks: No new stretch marks this week, thank goodness!
Sleep: Yep all day everyday or at least that’s all I want to do.
Worst Moment This Week: Ugh the bleeding/spotting started up again on 12/11/11 and hasn’t stopped yet, it’s going on 10 days now. After a trip to the ER and 3 ultrasounds within the last week, we see our little one is still growing. The cause of the bleeding may be that my placenta is lying a bit low, let’s hope it moves up soon.
Best Moment This Week: Seeing ABAK’s heart still beating and knowing our babe is okay despite the bleeding and spotting
Movement: Can’t feel it yet but we did see that ABAK is quite the little acrobat. We saw them jumping, kicking and waving. Yang says the babe is showing off to have their picture taken, my mom says the baby is acting out telling us it wants privacy and is tired of the ultrasounds lol.
Gender: We probably will find out but are considering keeping it just between us…
Labor Signs: Definitely don’t want any this early!
Belly Button: Still in.
What I Miss: Not having to worry so much, the baby keeps us on our toes!
What I am Looking Forward to: Having the bleeding/spotting stop, entering the second trimester.

11 weeks, heartbeat 168bpm!

Better late than never 8 week update

How far along: 8 weeks 4days
Symptom: Occasional cramps and slight pains,bloating,  morning, noon and night sickness, food aversions

Total Weight Gain: Actually I’ve lost almost 5lbs
Stretchmarks: Just on my breasts
Sleep: I’m constantly sleepy, I just want to sleep all day by 5pm I’m done!
Best Moment This Week: Any moment that I can eat and am not hanging over the toilet afterwards
Movement: None yet
Gender: Don’t plan to find out
Labor Signs: Too early for that!
Belly Button: Still in.
What I Miss: Actually enjoying food
What I am Looking Forward to: Our next ultrasound, making it out of the first trimester, meeting our baby…July can’t get here soon enough

Neglecting my wife

Lately I feel as though I’ve been neglecting Yang. The last couple weeks I’ve spent more time hanging over the toilet than with her:(.  I feel really bad that I’m too tired and sick to be the wife that she’s used to having. Yang has been really great about it all, I’m really proud of her. She’s been cooking, preparing her own lunch and finding ways to entertain herself without my company. I’m hoping I feel better soon and the fatigue, mood swings and sickness only last through the end of first tri. I am beyond thankful to be pregnant but still look forward to having energy again. I hope this all gets easier as my pregnancy progresses. Well that’s all for now, I’m half way through the work day and hoping I can actually work my entire shift today. Hope you all are well~Yin!

A non-baby related update

Well wifeandwifeblog has turned into Babyland recently lol, but we still have other stuff going on, believe it or not. I’m really excited since I will be done with school in 3 weeks! It has taken me what feels like forever, but I’ll have my Bachelors degree. Yang won’t be too far behind me and will finish her MBA program in April. We can’t believe the school chapter of our lives is about to end (at least for now), we both decided to go back to school the summer of 2007. It has been 4 and a half long years but we are making it through, working full time and going to school is no joke. I’m planning to take a break and just enjoy not being in school at least until August, at that time I’m considering doing a human resources certificate program. The class meets one night a week for two semesters, I think I should be able to handle that and it may be nice to get back on an actual campus, rather than doing online classes. The other thing I’m debating is doing a Master’s program, I’ve found an online program at a regionally accredited school that takes 18 months to complete. I’ve read reviews and it seems like a great school and a good program for me… but I haven’t made a decision whether its something I want to pursue or not, at the earliest I would begin the program probably sometime in 2013 so I still have some time to decide.

Now on to the more exciting, fun stuff Yang and I have started planning a tropical getaway for February. We originally planned to take a Paris/London trip this coming May but that idea has been postponed and replaced with our upcoming trip to Curacao! We both are so excited, it will be nice to leave the stress of work and everyday city life behind to relax in lounge chairs on a private beach. We plan to go for around five days. Yang has found a couple of really nice hotels on the beach and we’ve looked around for flight info. Yang has already requested the time off work, I can’t request any 2012 vacation time until December 1st so hopefully sometime during the first week of Dec. my time off will be approved and we can book our trip. We haven’t had a big trip since our December 2009 cruise to Cozumel. I love tropical vacations so of course I can’t wait! I’ll leave with a few pics of our Cozumel trip, of course Curacao will involve a little lot less alcohol but still lots of great memories will be made. ~yin!

How far along: 7 weeks 1 day
Symptoms: My breasts are a full size bigger, morning sickness has started, I’m sleepy all the time, also I’ve began having fun emotional outburst and crying at nothing

Total Weight Gain: None so far
Stretchmarks: Just on my breasts
Sleep: By 8pm I’m ready for bed
Best Moment This Week: Just getting through another week and knowing our baby is still in there growing
Movement: Only the cramping and stretching that’s going on in there
Gender: Don’t plan to find out
Labor Signs: Too early for that!
Belly Button: Still in.
What I Miss: Being able to eat without gagging lol
What I am Looking Forward to: Seeing ABAK at our 12 week ultrasound in December, getting to second tri so I can start really preparing things for our baby’s arrival

6 weeks today!

How far along: 6 weeks
Symptoms: My breasts are getting bigger and are sore, gas, feeling nauseous, slight cramps
Total Weight Gain: None so far
Stretchmarks: Nope, only the ones I already had
Sleep: By 8pm I’m ready for bed, still waking up during the night
Best Moment This Week: Seeing ABAK’s heart beating, this was a life changing moment for me
Movement: Only the cramping and strectching that’s going on in there
Gender: Don’t plan to find out
Labor Signs: Too early for that!
Belly Button: Still in.
What I Miss: I can’t really say I miss anything
What I am Looking Forward to: Seeing ABAK at our 12 week ultrasound in December, also holding our baby in my arms for the first time. I can’t wait until July!
